Have you ever noticed that everyone’s definition of ‘relaxing’ is completely different?”
Have you ever noticed that everyone’s definition of ‘relaxing’ is completely different?
It came up recently when a friend asked me, “Barbara, are you ever going to slow down and just relax?”
It made me laugh, but it also made me think. For a lot of people, relaxation means total stillness—unplugging, kicking your feet up, or curling up with a good book. And don’t get me wrong, I love those quiet moments at home with Alex!
But I’ve realized that for me, true relaxation often comes through active rest.
Having a project to pour my energy into—whether it’s getting my hands dirty in the garden, tackling a project around the house, or building something exciting in my business—doesn’t drain me. It actually recharges my batteries. Working on something meaningful isn’t stress to me… it’s where I find my focus and peace.
We don’t all recharge the same way, and that’s the beauty of it. Sometimes peace comes from sitting still, and sometimes it comes from having a purpose that keeps you moving forward with enthusiasm.
What about you? Are you a “kick back and chill” relaxer, or a “give me a project” relaxer? Let me know below! 👇

Yikes… that season on the water went by fast. So fast. 🚤☀️
Yikes… that season on the water went by fast. So fast. 🚤☀️
We managed to get out last weekend for a few incredible days on the lake, and I made sure to capture some of it to share with you all. This time of year, there’s always that big rush to squeeze every last, beautiful waking moment out of boat season.
I love taking these videos for two reasons:
- To share the magic with you in real time
- To look back on them in the cold of winter when I need a little reminder of warm summer days to look forward to!
The good news? We still have a few weeks of summer on the water left, and we’re going to make every single day count. Enjoy the clip! 🌊✨
How are you making the most of these final weeks of summer? Are you out on the water or soaking up the sun another way? Tell me below! 👇

A friend recently asked me, “Barbara, are you ever going to slow down and relax?”
We were talking about a project Alex and I are doing at home—building a feature wall with a fireplace and stone chimney—and she said, “You’re always doing something.” And you know what? She’s not wrong!
I think we often assume relaxing means stopping, sitting down, and doing nothing. I love downtime, but sitting still isn’t where I get my core energy. For me, true relaxation comes through progress—seeing a space, planning what it can become, and watching a vision come to life.
That mindset is exact what I bring to my work with sellers. When I walk into a home going on the market, I don’t just think, “How quickly can we list this?” I’m looking at the potential:
What can be improved?
What features should we highlight?
What will make buyers stop in their tracks among all the other listings?
Your home can be beautiful and well cared for, but if buyers don’t notice those details, value isn’t created in their minds. Potential doesn’t sell itself—you have to know how to reveal it. And that’s what I love doing most. 🛠️✨
If you’re thinking about making a move, how are you highlighting your home’s true potential? Let’s chat below! 👇

It’s peach season here in Niagara, and I just made my first ever peach cobbler! 🍑
It’s peach season here in Niagara, and I just made my first ever peach cobbler! 🍑
I had some leftover cobbler topping and a few ripe bananas on the counter, so I decided to throw together a banana bread and use the extra topping on top (watch till end to the last few photos to see how it turned out!).
I always love this time of year when there’s so much fresh local produce to bake and cook with. The temperatures are already starting to cool down, and as soon as that happens, I get this natural instinct to get back into the kitchen—baking, canning the harvest, and making the most of everything in season.
Are you starting to crave that warm kitchen baking vibe yet, or are you still holding onto summer? Let me know below! 👇

I just love the outdoor dining experience there. Everything is so fresh and always prepared to order. This video is from a warm night earlier in August.
Appetizers for the table: Their famous hummus platter and calamari
Our main course: Alex and I shared the shrimp and pesto spaghetti along with a fresh Greek salad
It was such a great evening with family, delicious food, and the perfect summer patio atmosphere.

The older I get, the more I realize that doing everything myself isn’t a badge of honor.
The older I get, the more I realize that doing everything myself isn’t a badge of honor.
For me, it’s about learning when to step back.
Whether it’s running a household where everyone pitches in, or running a business where tasks get delegated—learning to let go is where real growth happens.
Years ago, I probably would have tried to do it all. In real estate, I felt like I needed to hang every sign, answer every single call, handle every detail, and run behind everyone just to make sure it got done.
But somewhere along the way, I started asking a different question: is doing all of this myself actually giving my clients the best version of me?
I’ve come to appreciate that delegating doesn’t mean doing less work. It means protecting your energy so you can focus on where you create the absolute most value.
I’ve found that letting go of the busywork doesn’t take away from success—it’s actually what allows you to serve others better.
Sometimes the greatest gift in business isn’t doing more… it’s stepping into the role of making sure it gets done right, without having to do it all yourself.
💬 What’s one task in your work or daily life that you know it’s time to delegate?

Twice a week, Alex and I have a scheduled workout right in our garage. 🏋️♂️💪
Twice a week, Alex and I have a scheduled workout right in our garage. 🏋️♂️💪
It happens really early—because if we don’t get it done first thing, the day quickly takes over, and that workout becomes a challenge to squeeze in.
I honestly love this time of year for garage workouts. Having the door open with that warm breeze coming through is so energizing. Some days we’re working around injuries, and other days we feel super strong. Alex and I aren’t always at the same energy level, but our trainer tailors each session to what our bodies can handle that day.
At the end of the day, it’s the consistency I’m most proud of. In your mid-fifties, the goal isn’t a “beach body”—it’s waking up every day feeling strong, moving with enthusiasm, and having the energy to tackle whatever comes next. 💫
How do you stay consistent with your movement? Drop your routine below! 👇

It’s easy to get caught up in the market.
It’s easy to get caught up in the market.
Rates.
Inventory.
Prices.
How much further prices might move.
Whether you should buy now or wait.
All of those things matter.
But sometimes, in the middle of trying to make the “right” real estate decision, buyers lose sight of the reason they started looking in the first place.
I don’t ride my bike because I need the exercise.
That’s just a bonus.
I ride because I love being near the water.
I love listening to the birds.
I love exploring a new path.
And I really love that uninterrupted time to think.
The bike is just the vehicle that gets me there.
A home is much the same.
The house matters, but so does what that house allows you to do with your life.
Maybe it’s more room for your family.
Maybe it’s a shorter commute.
Maybe it’s being closer to the water.
Maybe it’s a quieter neighbourhood.
Maybe it’s finally having the space for the hobbies you’ve been putting off.
Or maybe you’re simply ready for a new chapter.
Those things are the destination.
The house is the vehicle that helps you get there.
So when the market feels noisy, come back to the question that matters most:
What are you actually trying to create?
Because when you know the destination, it’s a lot easier to decide which path makes sense.
