New Ontario Legislation Introduces Changes for Landlords and Tenants

Ontario – Bill 60, the Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, introduces several updates affecting landlords and tenants.

Key Changes Effective July 1, 2026

  • Tenants may install air conditioning units under conditions
  • Landlords may apply seasonal electricity charges
  • Mandatory forms for rent arrears agreements
  • Increased fines for violations

Changes Effective September 1, 2026

  • Adjustments to eviction notice periods
  • New rules for renovations and tenant re-entry
  • Expanded tenant rights for compensation claims

These changes are expected to impact both rental operations and tenant protections.
