Have you ever noticed that everyone’s definition of ‘relaxing’ is completely different?
It came up recently when a friend asked me, “Barbara, are you ever going to slow down and just relax?”
It made me laugh, but it also made me think. For a lot of people, relaxation means total stillness—unplugging, kicking your feet up, or curling up with a good book. And don’t get me wrong, I love those quiet moments at home with Alex!
But I’ve realized that for me, true relaxation often comes through active rest.
Having a project to pour my energy into—whether it’s getting my hands dirty in the garden, tackling a project around the house, or building something exciting in my business—doesn’t drain me. It actually recharges my batteries. Working on something meaningful isn’t stress to me… it’s where I find my focus and peace.
We don’t all recharge the same way, and that’s the beauty of it. Sometimes peace comes from sitting still, and sometimes it comes from having a purpose that keeps you moving forward with enthusiasm.
What about you? Are you a “kick back and chill” relaxer, or a “give me a project” relaxer? Let me know below! 👇
